Introduction
India-Vietnam relations have been exceptionally friendly and cordial since their foundations were laid by Prime Minister Nehru and President Ho Chi Minh more than 50 years ago. Political contacts have strengthened in recent times as reflected in several high-level visits by leaders from both sides and substantial Indian investment in Vietnam. Presently, major Indian companies are investing in energy, mineral exploration, agro-processing, sugar manufacturing, agro-chemicals, IT, and agricultural processing. The bilateral trade and economic linkages continue to grow and India is now among the top ten trading partners of Vietnam. Vietnam is India’s fourth largest trading partner in ASEAN and they aim to increase their bilateral trade to US$ 15 billion by 2020.
